About Us
Last updated: November 4, 2025
Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) is one of those concepts people learn once and then keep Googling. I wanted a tool that’s obvious: paste numbers, see the mean and MAD about the mean instantly—no fiddly settings.
What this calculator does well
- Paste & go: enter values separated by commas, spaces, or new lines.
- Multiple datasets: each non-empty line is treated as a separate dataset, plus an “All numbers” roll-up for convenience.
- Digits control: adjust decimal precision for clean reporting (rounding is display-only).
- Copy results: grab a TSV table straight to your clipboard for spreadsheets or reports.
- Instant updates: results re-compute as you type.
Why MAD?
MAD is easy to interpret because it stays in your data’s original units. It’s a practical spread measure for classrooms, quick analyses, dashboards, and any place you want a typical distance from the mean without over-weighting outliers.
What I care about
- Accuracy first. The math is clear and the output is easy to check.
- Privacy by default. You shouldn’t need an account just to compute a statistic.
- Speed & clarity. Clean typography and mobile-first ergonomics.
- Accessibility. Keyboard-friendly inputs and readable UI.
Roadmap
- Optional weights and grouped summaries
- Export to CSV/PDF
- Quick charts (histogram/box) for each dataset
- Convenient toggles for median absolute deviation and other dispersion measures
- Dark mode
